Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about granite, quartz, and quartzite countertops — from material selection to daily care.

01

What is the difference between granite, quartz and quartzite countertops?

Granite is a natural stone highly resistant to heat and scratches. Quartz is engineered stone that offers uniform color and almost no maintenance. Quartzite combines natural movement with durability similar to granite. We guide you based on lifestyle and kitchen use, not just appearance.

02

Will my countertops stain from wine, coffee or oil?

Quartz is non-porous and will not stain. Granite and quartzite are professionally sealed during installation and resist everyday kitchen spills with normal cleaning.

03

Do stone countertops require maintenance?

Quartz requires virtually none. Granite and quartzite only need a simple reseal about once per year, a quick process we teach you during installation.

04

Can I place hot pans directly on the surface?

Granite and quartzite tolerate direct heat very well. Quartz handles moderate heat but using trivets protects the surface long term.

05

How fast can you complete a project?

Because fabrication is local and in-house, some projects can be fabricated and installed within the same week depending on material and edge details.

06

Why choose Steamboat Masters Granite instead of a big store?

We are an artisan shop focused on details, not volume production. Our team brings over 30 years of combined experience in fabrication and installation. More than installers, we act as consultants guiding material selection, layout and durability decisions. We treat every project as if it were our own home and stay highly responsive from start to finish.

07

Will seams be visible?

We digitally measure and plan cuts around veining and lighting to keep seams as discreet as possible and structurally strong.

08

Is stone worth it compared to cheaper materials?

Lower cost surfaces often need replacement in 5 to 10 years. Stone lasts decades, improves resale value and avoids future renovation costs.

09

How should I care for my countertops on a daily basis?

Daily care is simple. Clean with warm water and mild dish soap or a pH neutral cleaner using a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, oven cleaners or abrasive pads. Quartz does not need sealing. Granite and quartzite only require periodic sealing, but for everyday use just wipe spills normally and dry the surface after heavy water exposure. Using cutting boards and trivets helps preserve the finish long term.

10

What maintenance do bathroom stone surfaces require?

Bathroom surfaces are low maintenance. Clean with a soft cloth and mild cleaner and avoid acidic or harsh bathroom chemicals directly on the stone. Do not leave standing water around faucets for long periods and dry the area occasionally to prevent mineral buildup. Granite and quartzite benefit from periodic sealing, while quartz requires none.

11

How do I maintain a full height backsplash in kitchens or bathrooms?

Full height backsplashes are easier to maintain than tile because they eliminate grout lines. Wipe with a soft cloth and mild cleaner and avoid abrasive pads or strong degreasers. Without grout joints, grease, soap residue and moisture cannot accumulate, making cleaning faster and reducing long term maintenance.
